The Van Gogh style did strike me as though the art was from that era or 'stuck'. I believe I am not the first to say this, a charge levelled at the artist (who is known as a Stuckist) apparently by british artist Tracy Emin. Each large canvas created from thick swathes of pure paint.
His work of maritime views had the most resonance for myself. More sensitive, honest and quite good. atmosphere and a sensitive appreciation for the heritage of the places he knows created by looking out at those scenes rather than his hyper introverted pre occupation with attempts to portray himself 'as an artist' in his other vibrant 'imagined' landscapes that feel fabricated.
