MIKE HINC - Contemporary Artist

Profile Information

About Me:
Hello! I am Mike Hinc. I am a painter who works in diverse media. I have a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art from the University of Hertfordshire, a Distinction in my Access Diploma from Ware Regional College, a BA Hons Degree in English from London University and a diploma from the ACGB Post Graduate Course in Arts Administration. I have exhibited in both solo and group shows in the UK, Spain, France, Australia and at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland. Having worked most of my life in the music industry with artists including Jonathan Richman, Morrissey, The Smiths, Nico, Primal Scream, The Birthday Party, and The Sisters of Mercy. As such, I am not unfamiliar with the cult of celebrity and its commodification.
About My Art:
Mt work celebrates transience, inadequacy and the contradictions of a commodified world. My subject is the ambivalence of experience – terror and wonderment in a human heart. My aesthetic is that of the humble postcard. My work, scribbled messages both platitudinous and profound, snatched from the frontline of the prosaic – “Weather still changeable, wish you were here”. Irony is key in an oeuvre which explores the interface between raw, felt experience and a mediated world of shrink-wrapped ideas and bite-sized epistemologies. If collage is the lingua franca of post modernism, it is also my Franglais. In a world without answers, my work neither seeks completion nor finds resolution. This is a contemporary collage where you can still “see the joins” and it is essential that you do so. That is where the art is. You are invited into a landscape stolen from Heidegger’s “World As Exhibition” where juxtaposed images combine to form alluring, imaginary worlds, which you may enter at your peril.
Favorite Music:
The silent sort
Favorite Films:
Apocalypse Now, The Tin Drum, The Producers, North by North West, The 39 Steps (Hitchcock), A Boy and his Dog, Snow White, French Connection, Jackie Brown, Casablanca, Maltese Falcon, Some Like it Hot, Mullholland Drive, La Strada, Das Boot, All Quiet On The Western Front, Trans Europe Express, Satyricon,
Favorite Artists:
Would probably best wish I didn't name them.....Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio,William Hogarth, Claude Lorrain, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, J.W. Waterhouse, Edvard Munch, Paul Cezanne, Chaim Soutine, Pablo Picasso, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Marc Chagall, Max Ernst, Yves Klein, Josef Beuys, RB Kitaj, Sigmar Polke, Francesco Clemente, Enrico Baj, JM Basquiat, Sean Hillen, Julian Schnabel, Don Van Vliet, John Baldessari, Jake & Dino Chapman, Sandy Skoglund, Jeff Wall, Pascal Bernier

Hi Mike i just wanted to say that I love your little green guy - He so cute and expressive and always cheers me up! He looks troubled, overwhelmed by the craziness in the world - I have compassion for his suffering! I hope he's doing well, send him my regards and offer for help if needed! :) LOL

Yep - one of the new ones. Was originally meant to be the main piece for the whole year but half way through my feet broke down so had to complete the piece sitting down - it has a sister piece that got bought by a public gallery in Toronto. Guess wot - back in the uk.
