Where Artists Gather - And Art Breaks

Steev Burgess posted a photoTHE SLEEPWALKER OF SURREALISM (a poem in memory of Paul Delvaux)
Deep within the forest
A sable scurries through the undergrowth,
Past the dim glow of the curiously placed Victorian oil lamps
laced curtains and closed eyes.
The artist dips his brush in moonlight
And continues to dream out loud.
Outside, the last tram rattles home
Down the cobbled streets of Brussels,

AUTUMN GLOW
I am the Autumn glow he said
The touch of sunset taints my leaves
My claws are gently bared and cling
With stiffening pride at ladys sleeves,
Everything is mindfull now
Less frivolous and merry,
Birds frisk through the folliage
For fallen fruit and berry.
I am the Autumn glow she said
Peach sweet beneath my blush
Soft sorrel is my carpet and
It brings the wild wood hush,

I think it was Nick Cave who said that his songs and poems sometimes knew more about what was happening in his life than he did. I too feel this, it could be paranoia, yet, sometimes your worst fears do come true.....…

Hi, Steev! Thank´s for your comment. I like your art!
Interesting works, I enjoyed the slideshow very much.
Cheers for sharing.
Best Wishes.
Hullo Mike, Paul Delvaux is one of my biggest influences. I think he put his ideas for a painting together in the same way as a collage artist. I admired his re-occuring themes and obsessions and easily recognisable style.
I thought long and hard about it and wondered what my obsessions would be. As there were no websites or books in English about him when I first discovered his stuff in Belgium, I guess I wondered where my search for beauty and mystery might take me.
Painters were probably been a bigger influence on me that collage artists, as I like depth of field and landscape, which is quiet rare in collage. The mystery of Joseph Cornell is an exception though, he is also an influence.
Hi Steve - of course I know your work. I stumbled across it when I first joined B-uncut and should have said something sooner. I like its imaginative whimsy and ambivalence. Of course I predictably clutch at art historical references and the scale and symbology of your images are all your own but your work reminds me of the Belgian surrealist Paul Delvaux in it's etherialty. Hope that makes some sense and doesn't offend.
Good luck with the world and your work
MIKE
