Thanks Michele, I sold this to a lovely couple who quite obviously still had that raw passion between them. They really COULD have jumped inside it to "play!" :-)

Hi, Michelle! Thanks so much for your kind comments. It's hard when the kids are little. I was always afraid that I'd get so lost in a painting that I wouldn't change diapers or I'd forget to give someone some lunch or something..... It's hard to do everything.

Profile Information

About Me:
Michelle Gates is a self-taught, British Expressionist/Abstract Expressionist who has exhibited and sold her work locally and internationally.
About My Art:
Her art is influenced by the nature of raw emotion and her environment. She loves the interplay between colour and light, and the perceived and non-perceived worlds.
Her dreams are also a vivid source of inspiration, those twilight zone scenarios where reality and fantasy become intertwined.

What drives her? Each newborn concept that strikes as a vision to entice creativity.

What excites her? The smell of fresh paint and the first scratch of the pencil on virgin paper.

Emotional expression is key in all of her paintings.

She also writes poetry, and random thoughts that take on a personal meaning to her.

Photography is also another of her loves.

Poetry and Random Thoughts.

Thoughts of Calm.

When moonlight skims this watery veil,
Undisturbed by breeze or distant sound,
Serenity descends
And shall be queen.

~

Sssshhhh!!!!
World be quiet,
And give me calm,
To deal with this noise inside my head!

~

Insomnia.

Cease! Cease!
I cannot sleep
For thoughts of creativity abound
To whirl and sweep
Around my restless mind.

~

Unknown.

I feel you there,
A presence undefinable,
Eerie, foul, sinister,
Exquisite in your entity
Twisting our perspective.

I feel you there,
Wi… Continue

Dreamscape.

Recurrency and the random.

Dreams. Nonsensical and bizarre, frightening and disturbing. We all have them, some of us remember them vividly, others are left with a vague recollection that lies dormant in the subconcious.

I belong to the category aforementioned, remembering in striking detail the nightly pleasures, and deviances, that take my hand each night and lead me through their world. It's almost like being inside a montage of hi definition films, one flowing into another, or walking throu… Continue
