Whoops I only just now saw your question - I will track down the event and email you as per your request. They had it posted I think on their Facebook page. It was very interesting. Too hot for my brain to work right now. xxx hugs

What was the Blur event you are referring to Lucy, did that involve artists on this platform ?

Noted all comments here-under. I have a few very focused and specific ideas in-mind, could I ask all those interested (even if only interested in principle), to e-mail me, as I want to create a private data-base for subsequent direct contact with artists concerned. Thanks.

Si Thomas. I think we all chuck in some money - logistics always a problem. We coulde probably get some good PR. My point being that we artists can wherever we are jointly share expenses and promotion and resources to get our work more widely seen. There is a 5 star hotel that has opened recently near me and I am in discussion with them for a show possibly a year down the road which would be a group show. I will keep you posted. I believe we have to widen our opportunities and not just rely on the galleries who are struggling to make ends meet in large part. Many of whom will fade away due to the economic downturn. And folks guess I do not need to point out what we all will have to take an active part in helping put something together here. It is way to much to ask of any one person. I want to get our collective thinking hats on and start percolating as per the ideas of Thomas.. Any body else got something that could work??? My belief is that as artists we are way too passive in marketing cause we are artists!!! Inherent in that is for me kinda being shy about my work and other factors like that. So glad people are joining in and maybe we can take this to the next level. Blur also recently had something in London that was sponsored in part by Ronnie Woods - that was an interesting example. They MADE IT HAPPEN so can we. big hugs to all

Guy's give me a few days to work on this, and also speak with a few people. I have some ideas in general, that can be combined with what we are discussing herein. I'll start a new discussion in this group, so we can expand on this subject.

Carolyn offers sound advice, thanks for stopping-by :)

Lucy, I've only just dropped in on this discussion and as I'm too busy right now to expand on what Thomas has said I would say this: Thomas is right about the Italian art market. We talked about it many months ago - it is non-existent. My Italian painter friends have all gone to New York.
You mention auction houses but from my own perspective they sell at very low prices as quickly as possible; even well known painters' works go for peanuts very often - therefore better value for the buyer than for the seller. If you have 2 galleries representing your work it seems to me you are very fortunate and my advice would be to stick with them, even if you have to pay 50%. If they are serious they will spend money on promoting your work which you won't get at an auction house. By the way, Parisian galleries that have survived the downturn are choc-a-bloc (I've lived there for many years) but you can always try. Good luck !

Thanks Thomas

I will give this some more thought and post subsequently. Paris however is also not doing wonderfully well at this moment in time. I have connections in both Russia and China, but the logistics would be something to take into consideration.

How about London (the UK probably has the best economy at this moment in time) ? I have an available space in London with two floors (owned by a very prominent London gallery with three locations, this third space having now been converted for private rental). Do you think b-uncut artists would be interested to exhibit in that space, which would mean having to pay a contribution to costs ? If so, I can do some sums and provide more info.
